Steller Sea Lions
Alaska sea lions, or Steller Sea Lions, are a highly social species that can be found living together in large groups along rocky islets and the open seacoast. With several hundred sea lions often coming together in one area, these majestic animals prefer to swim and dive as part of a group. This skill set means they tend to use their impressive front flippers to propel themselves with a powerful breaststroke maneuver through the waters, making them uniquely suited for their environment. It’s even known that Alaska sea lion females and young pups sometimes come together in large numbers to resemble something incredible—they can look like floating rafts in the middle of the ocean.
